The first annual Read-a-thon is officially underway at the Earth School in New York City's East Village, where my daughter Natalie is a fifth grader. The theme is travel, journeys through books to new and eye-opening places. I was asked to create a flyer announcing the event (that's it, above), as well as a cover for the "passport" in which the kids are keeping track of books read, places visited and the sponsors who are supporting them.
Students and parents have decorated the hallways with posters featuring beloved children's book characters. My daughter, Natalie, made one depicting one of her faves: Raina Telgemeier.
